Hey guys,
We had our January general meeting tonight and went over a lot of information that is important for both fishing opportunities in the spring and future possibilities for the club.
Rule Changes
The executive board has been discussing some possible changes to the rules that we will vote on next week. The additions being discussed are:
Paper tournaments: When fishing paper tournaments, in order for any fish caught to count, there has to be a picture of the fish laying on a bump board or something that can be used to gauge its size.
Sponsorship: In order to receive sponsorship benefits you need to attend 2 general meetings and then one event (paper tournament, social event or executive meeting) before the end of fall semester.
Voting: In order to be able to vote for the new executive board at the December General meeting you need to attend 3 general meetings (including the December meeting) and one event before the end of fall semester.
Fundraising
As a club we are putting more of an emphasis on fundraising for the club so the club has money to work on the boats, pay for the insurance of the boats and other aspects of the club that we need to continue offering what we have over the years to our members.
Possible fundraising activities in addition to our fundraising tournament in the spring that we are discussing include having a table on the quad to sell food or drinks, having a set up at local tournaments offering food and other items, having t-shirt sales open to the public. We are looking for other ideas for this and could also use help in carrying out these activities so if you have any ideas or want to help out please contact somebody on the executive board or post on the discussion board.
Tournaments
Here is a list of the upcoming tournaments that the club is open to fish in. Spots in the tournament are earned based on point totals, with the points leaders getting the first chance to go and if they can't we go down the list until spots are filled. All FLW tournaments are open to only 2 members, and for these tournaments whoever goes gets to fish with a pro for the day. All other Boat US tournaments are open to as many members as we have room and boats for questions about tournaments should contact Matt so arrangements can be made.
February 25-27: Murray State Invitational Kentucky Lake, KY
March 12: FLW College Fishing Qualifier Lake of the Ozarks, MO
March 25-27: Big Bass Bash Pickwick Lake, AL
April 2: FLW College Fishing Qualifier Kentucky/Barkley Lake, KY
May 23-27: Boat US CBFC Lake Lewisville, TX
June 19: FLW College Fishing Qualifier Wolf River Chain, WI
June 28-30: CBFO by Pepsi Kentucky Lake, TN
July 16: FLW College Fishing Qualifier Detroit River, MI
There is also the Under Armour championship coming up in the spring, the regional tournament will be around mid June on the Mississippi River with the championship around mid July on the Arkansas River. More information will be posted on these when we know it.
Sponsorships
Sponsorships are only available to members who received an email last week from Matt, if you haven't gotten that email than at the present time you are not allowed to use the sponsors. Any questions about this should be directed to the executive board.
Columbia: We are working on finalizing details with Columbia, it is very difficult to get in contact with them and then get things done, but we are in the process of getting the details finalized. If you are eligible, Matt's email will walk you through the process of applying.
Pure Fishing: We get a 30% discount on all Pure Fishing companies (Abu Garcia, Fenwick, Berkley, etc), again Matt's email will walk you through the process for this.
TackleWarehouse: We get 20% on all tackle and discounts on anything else they offer, again refer to Matt's email.
Viscous Fishing: We receive 40% off anything on their online store, again refer to Matt's email to take advantage of this.
We have also been working with Tom Redington, a U of I alum who lives and owns a guide service in Texas and he has gotten us contact with other sponsors, that the executive board is in the process of approving.
Lake fork trophy lures: We will get 40% off plastics 20% off everything else, and possibly some bait donations for raffles or another fundraising option (Lake Fork Tackle first aid kit, clip on light) They would also want FIBC members to appear on Big Bass Battle on Versus, which pits college students against 3 pro fisherman on a lake to see who pulls out the biggest fish.
Dobyns: Rod company that many believe are some of the best rods money can buy. We would be able to get 40% off their rods, and 50% off apparel and will also donate clothing for raffles and fundraising.
Ranger Boats: Ranger has agreed to take in our Ranger and refurbish it completely and help us fix the engine. We would have to bring the boat to the Ranger headquarters in Flippin Arkansas and pay for materials, but labor would be free. This would be the biggest goal for our fundraising, Ranger service department will not be free until early summer, so we have time to get the money together.
Hummingbird: We could have the chance to get a discount on Hummingbird electronics, Tom is working with us and Hummingbird to see if this chance is there for us. We are not sure what we would exactly get from them, but the ranger does need new electronics, again this is something that our fundraising would work towards.
Lees Bait and Tackle in Elk Grove imports Japanese products and has offered us a discount on their products for us. These are products that you can't really get anywhere else so it would be a good opportunity for some different baits.
All the above sponsorships are subject to a decision by the executive board and we will let you know when that decision is made.
Any questions fell free to post on here, the general board or contact an exec member and hope to see you all at upcoming executive meetings or the February general meeting!
