Hey guys,
We had our December general meeting this past Tuesday that included our club elections for our Executive Board for the upcoming school year! Here is what you missed if you were not able to come out:
First off, we have finished working on our constitution and it was voted unanimously into action at the beginning of the meeting, for those of you who were not able to attend the constitution will be put online either on our message board or another way where everyone will have access to it in the near future, anyone wanting a copy of it before then should contact Matt.
Columbia
Big 10 guys there are no updates on our gear yet, our contact is extremely busy right now. Matt is continuing to work with her and we are hoping to have the gear as soon as possible.
For all returning and potentially new Columbia pro purchase members this next part is extremely important. When you register for your pro purchase status it asks for a description of what our club does, Matt has written something up for us all to use and it needs to be consistent for us. For this section you will need to include:
The Illini Bass Fishing Club is a registered student organization at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. As a club we work to promote the sport of fishing to the students of the University of Illinois as well as to the members of the surrounding communities. We are a member of three national college fishing tournament organizations and participate in over 15 competitive tournaments annually.
On a side note on sponsors for all members with "active" standing, you will soon receive information on how to go about putting orders through with all of our sponsors so keep an eye on your in boxes for an email.
Tournaments
The College Bass FLW and some of the Boat US schedule as many of you know are out, and all tournaments are listed on our website for those of you interested in fishing tournaments with us this spring and summer.
FLW tournaments are ones that you do not need a boat for, any two eligible members of the club are allowed to go based on place in points and past experience in the club, our intention is to never have two members fishing who have never fished an FLW before because it is a style of tournament many of us are not used to. The members who will be fishing these tournaments will be determined next semester starting with the January general meeting.
College Bass tournaments require our team to bring our own boats, so it is our goal to have as many teams participating as possible, and more information about how many spots will be open and who will be fishing will be determined later next semester.
Boat US tournaments also require our team to bring our own boats and we again always try to get as many members out there as possible. We do not have a full schedule for these tournaments yet, so more information will be made available about these tournaments when we know it. Once again, spots for these tournaments will be determined later in the semester.
It is worth noting that there is one conflict so far in our schedule, the FLW tournament on Shelbyville interferes with the Boat US Pepsi Open, so that will be something those of you interested in tournaments will need to keep in mind.
Just to be clear on tournament eligibility and who gets to fish, any member is eligible to fish tournaments. First priority for College Fishing Circuits (all FLW Tournaments, all College Bass and the Boat US National Championship) goes to the top 10 in points who will have one week to submit a request to fish once the forms are given out by the tournament director. For invitational and open tournaments, points will be cut off one month prior to the tournament date and will be used to determine who will be fishing these tournaments, along with who has access to a boat as with these tournaments we can often send as many teams as we have boats for.
More information on tournaments and who will be fishing will be determined next semester like I said, if you have any questions at all feel free to ask!
Upcoming Club Events
Community Service: In order to be elgible for College Bass tournaments, we need to do community service as a club. We are working on a number of different options and will make more information available soon. Possible ideas so far have been going to a soup kitchen, cleaning up local lakes, cleaning up Boneyard Creek, and working with special Ed kids and taking them fishing in the Spring. If anybody has any other ideas please let an executive member know.
Bass Pro Seminar: Luke Stoner and Jake Jagust have been working with their local bass pro shops to get us to run a seminar in the store promoting some of our sponsors, more information will be posted when it is available.
Tinley Park Fishing Show: I have been in contact with the organizer of the Tinley Park Fishing Show, which is the largest fishing show in the Chicago area and he has been kind enough to donate a booth to our club for his show! Our goal is to use the show to help us fund-raise through a raffle and t shirt sales, as well as promote our sponsors and ourselves! The show is February 11th and 12th, and more information will be posted when the date is closer.
Fundraising Tournament updates
We have no conflicts with our high school tournament date of April 8th, and will work on setting this date and will hopefully have the support of the Illini Team Trail of the Illinois bass Federation to help us with the weigh in.
For our regular fundraising tournament, Matt just brought it to our attention that the date we picked was Mothers Day, which makes it hard for all of us and those wanting to fish it, so we are looking into other dates and options for that.
Finally, our executive board election results. I want to start off saying that every election was very close and the competition and willingness of all members to be leaders in our club are outstanding!
President: Matt Sells ran for re-election and could not be up seated, we look forward to another year with him as our leader!
Executive Administrator: Brock Phillips is moving from Social Chair to replace Kyle Ekstrom as he is graduating in the spring!
Secretary: You are all stuck with me for another year, I will continue to do my best keeping everyone as informed with the club as possible!
Treasurer: After 3 years as Treasurer, Carlos Sandavol is stepping down and Jake Jagust is replacing him, we are excited to have a business major in this position!
Tournament Director: For the first year of this positions existence, we have elected Luke Stoner to keep track of all our club tournaments!
Sponsor Chair: Another one of our new positions, we have elected Cody Sullivan to be in charge of our sponsor relations, Cody has been doing this in an unofficial capacity since last Spring and will be now an official member of the board!
Social Chair: We have reduced the total number of social chairs from 2 to 1 and with Jake and Brock moving on to other positions on the board, Conrad Keefe will be taking over as social chair and planning all of our non fishing outings!
That wraps up our meeting, if you have any questions feel free to contact me or post on this thread and see everyone next year!
Good luck on finals everyone!
