Hey guys
I mentioned briefly the CU park district emailed me back about their interest in setting up an event with us to take some special ed kids fishing from shore. I think this would be a really good idea to get our name out to the community and score some fun volunteer hours
Nothing is official yet ill have conrad make an official post. Here are some details we have to figure out first.
Date: she gave me just a few. Saturdays will work best maybe sunday. How is April 14th? morning/afternoon?I need to know how many people can make it or at least want to come pleaaaase so we can get an estimate for a max. participant size. I was thinking 10 of us with 20-25 kids
RODS!!!! We are going to have to supply the equipment. Im gunna need some help getting some old zebcos or something with a push button reel. Any old ones from home?
Location: I thought crystal lake wasnt a bad idea. Its stocked with bluegill. Suggestions?

Also I should be able to get quite a few old zebcos from home. I am thinking at least five or so? Don't hold me to that, but I will look into it.

This sounds like a great opportunity for you guys. When I was down at school I volunteered for a couple of the "Take me Fishing" events that were held on Homer Lake. Not sure if they are still doing those but it was always enjoyable and nice to give back to the community. Since the "target" species was essentially bluegill i remember they had rods that they just tied line to. Kind of like a cane pole for those of you that have used one. That way all the kids were able to have a rod which they used with their parents help.

FYI April 14th conflicts with the Illinois State Championship which is being held on Lake Springfield this year.

aw shoot well how does March 21st sound? The only other saturday open is March 31st but thats the day before our fundraiser. Does that work for everybody? I really need to know because that will depend how many participants we can have. I would like as many people as possible out there
dont forget to try to get ahold of some rods if at all possible.

hey brock, i can try and get a hold of the local DNR or the closest one around, I have the contact info for the one we go to at YNOT during the summer and I know they would love to help, however i dont know how we could utilize their resources here. I am sure that there is a similar program around here somewhere. Ill look into it so that we dont have to scramble to get all of our old combos

so if we are only doing this for two hours we still need to do 6 more hours of community service?
Post by ckeefe17 on Feb 20, 2012 17:48:51 GMT -5
yeah thats something that we need to clarify. I'm sure we can just count this whole thing as our 8 hours of service.
Post by Kyle on Feb 20, 2012 18:32:35 GMT -5
Yeah def clarify if each members hours count towards the 8 we need or if we all all individually need to do 8 hours..I would assume as a club (not individually) we need 8 hours
Post by stoner35 on Feb 20, 2012 19:13:17 GMT -5
I have a feeling we would be able to count this as the 8 hours. If we have ten guys all giving their time I don't know why it wouldn't count.
