Hello! And welcome to the mailing list of the Illini Bass Fishing Club!
First off, I would like to thank you all for expressing interest in our club. We had one of our most successful Quad Days ever this year and we are extremely excited to meet you all. Which brings me to my next point, we will be having our first General Meetings of the year coming up NEXT WEEK. I know this may cause some confusion as we had communicated on our flier that the meetings will be taking place this week but, due to scheduling, the first General Meeting will take place NEXT WEEK. There will be two General Meetings, so if you are not able to attend the first, you can come to the other. You ARE NOT required to attend both meetings; you can if you would like, but attendance at only one meeting is necessary.
The first meeting will be Wednesday, September 5th at 7:00pm. The next meeting will be the next day, Thursday, September 6th, again at 7pm. The locations for the meetings will be announced very soon, we are still working on securing a room big enough for all of you. I will send out another email with the location of the meetings as soon as the university secures a space for us. If you cannot make either of these two meetings and would still like information regarding our club, please send me an email and I will be able to answer any questions that you have. I really hope that you all will take the time to come out and learn more about our club and all that we do. To make your decision a little easier, we will be serving pizza and pop for all of those in attendance. In addition, we will be raffling off lures, club shirts and other fishing gear for all of those that attend; something that we do at all of our General Meetings.
At the meetings, we will cover anything and everything you could ever want to know about our club and becoming a member. We are going to do our best this year to appeal to everyone who is interested in fishing, no matter the skill level. To do this we are going to be giving seminars at every General Meeting on different fishing techniques and skills so that our members can learn about fishing and improve themselves. In addition, we will be organizing more fun fishing outings which will give new or inexperienced members an opportunity to get out and practice and learn with our more experienced members. We have also started to get more involved in our community and are planning to organize at least two community service events every semester.
For those of you that are sure that you would like to join, you will have the opportunity to register and pay your dues at either meeting. Dues are $30 for general members and $50 for members wishing to tournament fish, and their uses will be discussed at the meeting. For those of you that aren't sure yet, you are not expected to join or pay dues in any way. Just come on out, learn about our club and fishing and enjoy some free pizza on us.
Lastly, our first meetings usually fall on the week before Labor Day weekend when most people head home for the weekend which allowed us to remind everyone to bring their fishing gear back to campus. Since our meetings will be taking place after Labor Day weekend, I would like to remind everyone to bring their fishing gear back to campus with them, if possible. We have many members with apartments and can help you store your things if need be. Also, if you do not have gear of your own, our members have more than enough gear to share until you decide to get your own. Either way, fishing events will begin next week following the meetings and we want to be sure that everyone is prepared and can participate!
If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email. Listed below are links to our website, message board and Facebook page. They are all great ways to keep in contact with our club so please check them out and start interacting with the club!
