Doug Macchia former president of the FIBC made the club proud today by pulling a come from behind victory at the BFL Regional at Ft. Madison, IA. He won a brand new boat and I hear he even mentioned college bass fishing on stage at Walmart. Doug Macchia exemplifies the characteristics of an All-American man and we are proud to have him as a past president as well as an avid supporter and promoter of college bass fishing and our club. Congradulations to Doug and all the best success at the All-American in Louisville, KY next summer.

Thanks a lot Rob. Its taken me a while to reply because I was trying to decide just exactly how to respond. I could write a super long account of each day and each fish and exactly how it all happened, but I dont think that will benefit the members of the club as much as explaining how I belief the Fighting Illini Bass Club has help me to achieve this success.
The first step to winning this Regional was joing the club when I was a freshmen. For those of you who don't know me or didn't know about my beginnings with the club, I basically had a VERY limited knowledge of bass fishing before I joined the club. It was the experience that I gained from other club members that directly aided in improving my angling ability and inspired me to work hard to get better myself. My four years with the club gave me the skills that I used to catch my fish at the Regional, and the even bigger picture is that I never would have even thought of fishing the BFL tournaments if the club didn't help me to catch the tournament fishing bug!
So the message to all you guys is this: I'm not some bass fishing stud that has some magical knowledge that no one else has, I'm just a recently ex-college bass fisherman that worked hard and had some luck on my side. In other words, any of you guys could have success at the same level if you really want to. I would love to see more of you fish some of the larger tournament circuits in the future and be successful. It would be even more proof of the Fighting Illini Bass Club's ability to produce quality anglers!
