Thought I'd share with you guys the skinny on our annual trip to Lake of the Woods (Canada/Ontario). Stopped at Mille Lacs on our way up and my buddy (Brandyn from http://www.reelfisherman.com) boated a 43" at 10:09 PM... moonset was at 10:10 PM. If you don't believe in feeding windows correlating with moon phases, you better believe it!!! lol! Moonrise/set feeding windows were quite productive over the trip. On Lake of the Woods we ended up boating a total of 14 fish (we were targeting muskies) with eight over 40" and one 50.25". The 50" ate a walk-the-dog topwater bait in glass calm conditions and blue bird skies. Fished Lake Vermilion in Minnesota - arguably one of the best muskie lakes in the country - on our way home. Not only does it hold muskies of gigantic proportions but the walleye and smallmouth fishery is phenomenal as well. Had several follows from some hawgs, but the highlight of that night was spotlighting muskies sitting in one foot of water with a 6 million candlewatt power flashlight. It was truly a spectacle to behold. They weren't interested in baits which was fine because it was cool to be surrounded by 45-50" muskies 360 degrees around the boat at 1 AM!!! Hope everyone's summer is going well! See ya'll (most) soon!

Hey, Matt, saw your new avatar on Chitown-Angler is a muskie. Where'd you get it, how big? Looked like a nice clean, healthy fish.

Sean, I caught that one from Eagle Lake, ONT. That one went 42" and got a fat 40" as well. We only dedicated one day strictly to muskie and we ended up seeing 6-7 that day including 2 supertanker fish that made the 42" look tiny in the water. Not sure how to post the pics on here.

Nice fish guys! Matt - have you been hitting Lake Michigan at all lately? I haven't been doing all that well - usually getting just 1 or 2 a trip. We still haven't gone out together and the summer is almost over....

Unfortunately i've been so busy working that the only fishing I've done from the start of July until now was the week in Canada. Have you been getting any decent size fish out of Lake Michigan recently?

Not really. Got a couple that were probably about 2.5 lbs, but most have been around 1.5 lbs. Not too many of them either. Any plans for this weekend? See you went out on a salmon charter from North Point. Nice fish

Mike,
I managed to get down to the harbor today for a little while and went 1 for 5, catching a smallie in the 2-2.5 lb range on a baby 4-minus. One of the fish I lost felt pretty big but managed to cut me off in the rocks.

Sweet! Sorry I couldn't make it out. I had some other stuff going on. Did you get all of your bites on the crankbait?

This cool weather spells MAINLAKE. Enough putzzin around in the spillway, go up top for a REAL challenge. Ryan, you and I tag teaming the mainlake could light that f*cker on fire!
That said, if the mainlake isn't working you can always flog the spillway with Redneck. He'll put you on fish and I guarantee you'll have a good time!!!!

i would go on the mainlake but the challenge on labor day weekend is not the fish......but the drunk people. had way too many bad experiences on shelbyville on labor day weekend. saw a guy drive a 38 ft scarab with twin blown 454's drive his boat up the ramp because he was too drunk to see his trailer. i will stick with the spillway this weekend if we are in my puddle jumper but if you are going sean i would love to tag along. anyway for those interested in going call me before friday night so we can set a day and time to meet at two one seven, nine seven two, four one nine zero.
