Hey guys,
We had our October general meeting tonight, for those of you who couldn't make it here is what we went over.
Big 10:
The Big 10 did not go as we hoped it would, we had a pretty significant weather change which moved the fish off the spots we had and made our tournament day real tough. We ended up finishing 9th out of 10 teams. Overall everyone had a good time and it was a good learning experience for everyone who went.
We are working with the other teams on making some changes to the structure of the tournament. The big issue we are working on is how to minimize the influence that the volunteer boaters have on the tournament, through both tips and boat operation. This is a tough situation to remedy and something that is seen at all levels of tournaments but the hope is to write some stricter rules and make sure they are known and attempt to make the boaters enforcers on the water.
There is also a lot of talk about how to be more organized next year to avoid a lot of the confusion that was seen this year.
Finally, there has been preliminary plans laid for next years tournament, the University of Wisconsn team has volunteered to run it and host it at either the madison chain, the Mississippi river out of La Crosse or the Winnebago chain with the most likely option being the Madison Chain at this point. We are talking about hosting it the year after with possible options being Lake of Egypt, Kinkaid and we are looking for more options of anyone has a suggestion let us know. The goal that the big 10 schools are trying to achieve is to get as neutral of a site as possible and increase fairness and level the playing field as much as possible. For that reason we are trying to stay away from bigger bodies of water such as lake St Clair, pick lakes that will not depend on gps locations and prior knowledge of the lake.
ISU tournament
We are having a tournament out at Clinton Lake with ISU on October 23rd. Right now we have 4 boats going, Cody and Luke are bringing their own boats as well as the Quachita and the Ranger and there are no open spots. If anybody can get a boat and wants to fish post on the board and we can work to find you a partner. Anybody going to this tournament needs to be at Mascoutin State Recreation area at 6:30 am and should talk to Cody about meting up and tournament information.
2012 College Bass
The College Bass schedule has been posted and the most likely one we will fish is the weekend of May 18th and 19th out of La Crosse on the Mississippi River. We can fish in as many as we want, so we might be able to hit the one in Oklahoma depending on other schedules.
We have to make some changes to our club in order to be eligible for these tournaments as well. First, anybody wanting to fish these tournaments will need to be members of BASS which we get at the discounted rate of $30 and which also gives us admission to the IBF. We also may need an advisor within the university but we are checking into this more. We would also need to do 8 hours of Community Service as a club which is something we are looking for suggestions on what we can do. Possibilities right now include cleaning up Boneyard Creek, and going out fishing with a special education children group.
Name and rule changes
As many of you have heard the University has made us change our name because "Fighting Illini" is a registered trademark of the University. We are now known as the Illini Bass Fishing Club. We now have to work on changing all the paper work over to the new name, bank accounts and boat titles specifically.
The constitution will be rewritten by the November General meeting, all rules have been approved by the executive board and in place since the beginning of the year this is just the official process.
Something new that we are putting into place is getting more executive board members involved in each general meeting, the treasurer will give a constant update of the clubs finances, the secretary working to promote the club and each board member referring to their position.
Sponsors
Rosters will be updated with those who are eligible soon and everyone who is eligible will be sent an email giving them instructions on how to receive the discounts so pay attention to your inboxes!
Top 10 members, the Columbia gear donation is in the works so pay attention to the board for that.
Also there will be a club dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings next week so pay attention to the board and come out it will be a good time!
Thats all i got for you guys this month, of course any questions you have feel free to ask and remember weekly executive board meetings at Geovantis, fell free to come out!
