The Illini Bass Fishing Club will be hosting its December General Meeting this Tuesday, December 5th, at 7:00pm in Room 28 of the English Building.
This is an extremely exciting meeting for our club this year as we will not only be hosting our annual Executive Board elections but we will also be ratifying our newest revision to our club constitution.
To give you an idea of how this meeting will run, we will first go through the proposed constitution revision as a club. During this time, any members in good standing will be invited to suggest additional changes and edits that they feel would be beneficial for the club. After the entire document has been covered and issues resolved, the club will hold a vote that will be open to all members in good standing to ratify the new changes. This vote requires a 75% approval in order for the new document to pass. If any disagreements cannot be resolved and the new document cannot get the 75% approval needed, the vote will focus only on Article IV and V that pertain to the officers of the club. Once these articles are approved, the meeting will continue to the Executive Board elections.
All members of the club with "Active" status are invited to run for positions on the Executive Board and all members in "Good" standing are invited to vote in the elections. Candidates may either nominate themselves or be nominated by another member within the club. All candidates must have a short speech prepared to present to the club detailing why they think they should be elected to the position, what they have done for the club in the past, what they plan for the future, etc. Any member interested in running for a position and not able to attend the meeting must contact our Secretary Justin Kaszuba with their speech immediately so that he may present your speech on your behalf. Following the speeches, the candidates will be removed from the room for voting and voting will be conducted with a heads down vote. Voting will begin with the President position and follow the order listed in the attached document. If you do not get elected for a position you are strongly encouraged to run for another. In the attached file, I have listed the responsibilities of all Executive Board members as detailed in the new revision of the constitution. Please look at these closely and try to address each one of the listed responsibilities in your speech.
We will also be quickly going over updates regarding our Bass Pro Shops seminars as well as our fundraising tournaments and any events planned for Winter Break.
Clearly this is going to be a very eventful and important meeting for our club and I encourage everyone to come out and at least observe the proceedings. This is the first revision to our constitution in a very long time so it is a very big step for us and we would like as many people to be a part of it as possible. Also, it is a great opportunity to learn a lot about our club and how we operate; so if you have not been out to a meeting yet this would be a great time for you to do so. This is also obviously a great time to get involved in the club and make a difference. College fishing is growing at an incredible rate and getting involved with it at a leadership position would be a great experience and a very positive learning opportunity for anyone, no matter what your skill level in fishing is.
I think that is about as much information as I can cram into an email and if you have read this far then congratulations, I know it wasn't easy. I hope to see everyone out at the meeting on Tuesday night, it should be a really exciting end to a great semester. Good luck to everyone considering running for an Executive position!
