Hey guys,
We had our Feburary general meeting last night, here are the notes for anyone who missed it.
Recent Events
We have had a couple of events since we got back on campus, a reel cleaning event and a "flipping and pitching" seminar. We have been using the off season to get all of our gear ready for the spring tournaments, as well as keeping our skills sharp.
Newsletter
We have published our first newsletter detailing our recent tournaments and events to keep our sponsors and others interested in our club up to date with everything we are doing. A big thanks goes out to Jake and Brock who put a lot of work into the newsletter finishing everything up!
High School Open
We have sent the permit in for our High School Tournament on Clinton Lake on April 1st. We have also finished up the flyer for this tournament, and we need everyone's help in promoting this tournament. Put the flyers up in baitshops, local bass clubs, online forums, anyplace related to fishing. We are also looking for boaters to help out these teams, so if you know anybody interested please let us know. A big thanks goes out to Dobyns Rods, Lake Fork Trophy Lures, Advantage Bait Company, Spro Lures, Southern Lure Company, The Rod Glove, Quantum, Custom Cast Lures, and Numa Sport Optics for their generous donations that we are using as prizes for the anglers. Flyers are on the message board and the website, so get the word out for us!
Fundraising Tournament
We have all the paperwork in, we are just waiting for the insurance information. The date is reserved though and the flyers are done, so the same thing applies for this one, we need you guys to get the word out. This is our 3rd annual tournament and is open to anybody who wants to fish it, so if you know anybody refer them to our website.
Fundraising Raffle
We are also working on our 2nd annual Fundraising raffle, with prizes from our Dobyns Rods, Custom Cast Lures, Quantum, Spro, Southern Lure Company. We are still ironing out the details, so we will post more information when we have it.
Tinley Park
We have a booth at the Tinley Park Fishing Show on February 11th and 12th, where we will be promoting our club and our sponsors, as well as selling our raffle tickets and club t shirts. I will be making a thread on the message board with more information so be sure to check that out!
Tournaments
Boat US National Championship: Registration opened today at 8 am and we have registered three boats, Cody, Matt and Justin. The way this tournament works is we are guaranteed at least one spot, and up to three depending on how many other teams registered. The three teams that we are sending to these tournaments are based on boaters (we have to bring our own boats) tournament experience and points). Right now the three teams going are Cody and Kyle, Matt and Conrad and Justin and Jake.
Murrary State Invitational: This is a Boat US tournament on Kentucky Lake on February 25-26. Right now we have no one registered so if anybody is interested in going let Luke know, this is another tournament where you need your own boat.
FLWs
We are beginning to accept tournament requests for these tournaments the dates are as follows.
Table Rock March 1st: this is the weekend of unofficial
Kentucky Lake: May 12th Saturday after finals
Shelbyville: June 24th Will conflict with Pepsi Open
Mississippi: July 28th.
Spots for these tournaments are based on tournament experience and points. FLW tournaments are different, with no pre-fishing and only a 6.5 hour tournament on big water, so we try to put one angler with FLW experience with someone who has never fished one before.
Midwest Collegiate Circuit:
We have been working with ISU, SIUC, MSU, Purdue and Northwoods University to set up a series of tournaments in Illinois Indiana and Michigan. We have set up 6 tournaments, with teams allowed to fish 3 out of the 6 with the top 40 qualifying for a classic at the end of the year.
1. April 29th Clinton Lake- Hosted by ISU
2. June 10th Mill Creek Us
3. July 1st Lake St Clair MSU
4. July 15th Lake Webster, IN Purdue
5. August 12th Lake Wixon NWU
6. September 9th Crab Orchard SIUC
For these tournaments anybody who has a boat is eligible to fish, with each school sending three teams. For these tournaments there is no switching partners, so whoever you fish one with you have to fish all. The registration fee is $50 with an optional big bass that pays out 100% and the tournament days are friday saturday prefish with the tournament sunday. We are still working out final details and will post more information when we know it!
Boats
Thanks to Devon Loftus the Quachita has a new cover, and since we are keeping the boats outside this is something very important to have.
The Ranger also has a new cover after it was ripped in one of the storms right before the end of last semester.
The Ranger also has issues with the livewells that will need to get fixed before it is tournament ready this spring. Matt Sells will be doing the work on the boat most likely, and will be picking a date soon, so we will post more information for anybody who is interested and willing to help out.
Thats all I got for you guys, we went over a lot of stuff so if there is something you have questions about just let us know. Hope to see you guys at the next events and meetings!
