Hey guys,
We had our March general meeting last night, and for those of you who couldn't make it here is what we went over.
Potential new sponsor
The owner of Prarie Outfitters, the biggest outdoors store in the area located in Charleston is interested in becoming one of our sponsors. They handle a lot of our sponsor items, such as Dobyns, Numa, and Custom Cast, so we are looking into this to see if it is worthwhile for the club.
High School Tournament:
Our registration is up to 29 teams confirmed, with a lot of interest coming from at least 10 more schools at this point. We still have a lot of local schools to contact for this, so please check the post on the message board and start helping us promote this, a little work goes a long way with this. Before you contact any schools make sure to check the topic on the board with all the schools we have already contacted, we do not want to double up on schools!
We are also working on finishing up the details of the tournament in the next couple of weeks, and we will be looking for volunteers to help us in running this tournament. If you can help out we could really use the help, there will be a post on the message board soon to talk about responsibilities and jobs, so if you are going to be there please let us know! We will have plenty of things to keep us busy during the day, we will get in a little fishing, have some boats out there taking video and checking in with the teams so it will definitely not be a boring day!
Fundraising Tournament
Registration for the fundraising tournament is going slower, with only three confirmed registrations at this time. Again the same thing applies with this one, we really need to get the word out to more clubs. Post flyers in your hometown bait stores, tell your friends and family who like fishing, any thing you can do helps! Again, check the topic on the board so we do not double up on these clubs!
Midwest Collegiate Circuit
Registration is open for these tournaments, and we will be figuring out who is fishing these in the next week. If you are interested in fishing, post on the board topic and we will see if we can get you in! The schedule is on the website so check the dates.
College Bass Regional
We will be registering for this tournament in the next week. There may be a spot or two open for this tournament, and we can send as many teams as we want. If you have a boat and would like to fish in it post on the board. This tournament is on the Mississippi River on May 18th-19th
Community Service
On May 4th, we will be going out with the Champaign County Park District to Crystal Lake to take some children with special needs fishing for a couple hours. We need some people for this and we know its during finals week but it is a friday so come on out and take a little study break and have some fun fishing.
Columbia
Matt is beginning to work on getting the Big 10 guys our second donation of the year, pay attention to the message board for more updates on that.
Fundraising
Jake is working on organizing an event where we would work for one of the apartment complexes on campus passing out flyers. We would need to pass out 5000 flyers among 10 of us and in exchange would get $500 for the club. More information will be posted on the board when we know about it.
We are also in the process of making some more t-shirts to sell and hope to have those in the next couple of weeks.
Matt's Surprise Announcement
Matt has been talking to the owner of the Illini Team Trail tournament circuit as a way to promote our high school and fundraising tournaments and he is very interested. In the future he would like to fold our fundraising tournament into one of the ITT tournaments on Shelbyville and give his anglers the opportunity to fish our tournament at the same time they are fishing the Trail and be able to win a little more money at the same time helping us out.
He also is involved with High School fishing and will help us get more schools involved for that. He also offered up the Trails weigh in trailer for the High School tournament so our weigh in goes smoother.
Thats all I have for you guys this time. Be sure to keep paying attention to the board, there is a lot of stuff happening right now that we could use help with but will still have a great time doing. We are working on getting some presentations together for the April meeting with a couple of faculty members who study fish habitats so thats definitely a meeting you don't want to miss!
