Hey guys,
I'm sorry this is a week late but you all know how midterm week is. Anyway, here is what was discussed last Wednesday.
Illinois College B.A.S.S. Bash
The weekend of September 22nd and 23rd, we had four teams fishing this tournament out on Lake Shelbyville. The teams were Matt and Conrad, Cody and Jake, Justin and Luke, and Brock and Devon and of those teams, we had two teams in the top 3 with Justin and Luke taking first and Cody and Jake taking third. The fish weighed in were caught on Square Bill crankbaits around main lake points and coves around lay downs and cover in the water. It was a great event as we were able to hang out with the pro anglers, talk with high school teams and see first hand how pro tournaments are run. It was a real cool event and we all had a great time out there!
Big 10 Classic
The Big 10 Classic was on September 29th and 30th up on the Madison Chain of Lakes. It was a very hectic tournament for us, as there were not enough volunteer boaters to go around and we had to work to find our own boaters. In addition, Cody had motor problems with his boat which put us down another boat and we had to struggle to find a replacement boat the day before the tournament. All in all, it turned out to be a decent tournament as we took 5th place, only 5 pounds out of second place. In retrospect we are going to work on having a better team strategy, as our teams did not work together enough to figure out the lake and prefish. This tournament really highlights the importance of prefishing tournaments and it is something we will emphasize in the future. The patterns we were on were chatterbaits and jigs around docks for largemouth, and deep crankbaits for smallmouth.
We are working to build a boater contact form to help ensure that the issues we have had the past two years finding boaters for this tournament will not happen and so we can bring 5 teams each year.
Upcoming Tournaments
Cody and Kyle are fishing the Midwest Collegiate Series Championship on Lake Springfield this Sunday, so good luck to them!
The 2nd annual I 74 shootout with ISU is planned for October 29th, and we have coangler spots open for this tournament. This tournament is open to as many teams as we can enter, so if anyone has a boat please let us know ASAP on the post on the general board. Co angler spots will be determined by points and open spots. The weigh in will be similar to the Big 10, as the best 3-5 weights will count towards the teams total. If you want to fish this tournament post up on the thread Luke created on the General board.
Previous Event
The Champaign Urbana Special Recreation Event was cancelled due to rain, and will be rescheduled for the spring.
Heritage High School Meeting: Cody, Matt, Brock and Nick V went out to Homer Lake on October 7th to talk with a recently founded High School team and just hang out with them. It was a good event and we will be doing more events with local High Schools in the near future.
Upcoming Club Events:
There will be a club dinner coming up in the next couple of weeks pay attention to the board for more information.
This winter we will be hosting a variety of events to improve skills and take care of our gear. There will be at least one event dedicated to cleaning and maintaining our reels and another event to practice flipping skills. There will likely be other events announced as the winter gets closer.
There could be a challenge with the Illini Bluff High School Fishing Team at either Clinton or Newton at some point this winter.
We will be doing map events for upcoming tournaments.
Tinley Park Fishing Show: For the second year in a row we will have a booth at the Tinley Park Fishing Show on February 9th and 10th. We use this show to promote the tournaments our club hosts in the spring, to sell club t-shirts and raffle tickets, promote sponsor items and to just generally promote the club. We could also be working with the show organizer on a seminar during the show. We would like to see 4-6 members at each day of the show, more information will be posted as it gets closer to the date.
Sponsors:
Lews: We have just started working with Lews as a sponsor. Lews makes really high quality reels, and are working very closely with college teams, so we are very excited to start working with them. They offer us 40% off of their reels and apparel.
Bass University: We have been presented with a unique opportunity to work with The Bass University to help them organize their event in Chicago in January. They need help with setting up, cleaning up, driving pros to and from the airport and helping to promote the event. We would get a 50% on admission to the event, which is put on by pro fisherman such as Mike Iaconelli. More information will be posted about this event when we know more about it.
On a general note for our sponsors, we are going to start working on writing reviews for sponsor products and thank you notes to the sponsors for their support. We will need help with this so if you have bought sponsor products start thinking of what to write and we will start working on this in the next couple of weeks.
High School Tournament:
We are going to start planning this tournament, getting prizes lined up, schools informed, dates set, etc. We will be talking about whether or not we want to increase the size of the field or the entry fee for this tournament, as well as the logistics for the tourney.
Boat Problems:
On Shelbyville the lower unit on the Ranger went out. This is a serious problem that will take some work to get fixed, and Matt and some other members will work this winter on tearing it apart and trying to fix it. We will be pulling the insurance on the boats and the club this winter, and we will be working with B.A.S.S. to figure out club insurance through their membership.
Jerseys:
We are working on new jersey designs for the spring season. The designs we are working with right now are up on the members only section of the board so be sure to check those out and give us your feedback!
That is it for this meeting guys, as always if you have any questions feel free to post on here and we will answer them. Also remember to check the board frequently, as it is the main source of communication for club events and announcements.
See you guys at the next club events!
