Steve,
We were on a small pond in the northwest suburbs. The pond had a solid 6" everywhere I drilled a hole. On another local lake the ice was ranging from 3-5".
Vandy,
I didnt even think about that but next time I'm out ill keep some crappie to bring back. As long as the ice holds we should have plenty of fish.

HEY! I wanna go!!!!!!!! I live in this area too! Long lake is only 10-15 minutes! Let me know when you go next, I'm not very experienced at ice fishing and I'd love to hang out and catch some fish.

Mid forties and rain tomorrow are going to do a lot of damage to the ice. Even if the ice is still seems thick enough the rain will cause it to be weaker than it would be otherwise.
Id be up for going sometime after Christmas as long the weather gets colder again. Ive got enough rods for 1-2 other people and if we fish a lake with pike I'd have enough tip ups to cover the group.
And if the ice holds we'll certainly be having a fish fry upon returning to school. Yesterday I was out and caught quite a few yellow and white bass, nice size bluegill, and a couple crappie.

Let me know how if the ice settles and when you all might go again. I've got a pole and some little i don't even know what they are. I've been going to trying to go for two yrs now, but the ice down here hasn't been that solid. I'm game for trying some ice fishing out finally.

leo,
One or two augers should be more than enough. Id also recommend getting a strikemaster lazer auger instead of replacing the blades on the mora but it all depends how much you ice fish.

Matt,
I saw the white bass pictures on JP's phone. VERY NAICE! We're going Monday (Christmas Eve) to forest or maybe that one we went to the other day. It's supposed to be cold enough for thick enough ice. Just in case I'll wear some waterwings... but ill call you tomorrow evening
