So Steve and I were talking about possibly doing a beginning of the year BBQ and fishing outing at a nearby lake (I vote for Lake of the Woods, but Kauffman might be good, too). Do you folks think this would be a good event for us? Especially, if we paired new members with "vets"?? Driving should be OK with my truck, maybe Vandy's, Steve's, and Dinty's (?).
Thoughts?

I like the idea a lot. If we have enough drivers I was thinking we could go other places too, Homer, Kickapoo, Crystal

i can drive too. i can take 2 with me and i vote lotw. we should bring the boats and have paying members able to come out for an hour or so. something maybe to attract some more people. personally i am partial to the oachita haha. unless of course i can muskie fish with sean. that would be my number one choice

I don't think we should bring out any boats. Boats will complicate things and may leave some people feeling left out. I want it to be really simple so new members and older members can have some fun. LOTW would be a good place, it has some nice pavilion areas. I only want fishing to be part of the experience, I want it to be more of a get together for people to get to know each other. FOOD is always a good way to get people to come out!

Food is a great way to get people there, with fishing as an option, but I don't think a tourney would be the best idea, just fun fishing, and anyone can ask experienced members questions about fishing, being in the club, etc. We need to be available to interested members so that we can increase membership.

Sounds like a good idea to me, no matter which lake. How we paying for the BBQ stuff? I like the idea of just fishing, no tourney. Maybe we should still "pair-up" just so everyone gets involved or not. Whatever.

You should go to RiverBend which is just south of Mahomet on Rt 47. Not too long ago the restructured the park area - and it is really nice. The lake is a deep clear strip pit. Usually you can see a few deer towards sundown, I ran across 20 turkies one spring, ,and hawks are usually flying around the area. I have heard stories of 10lb bass being taken from there as well....
