I Know there is many Lake Shelbyville spillway muskie experts in the bassclub. My question to you is what works well for you for big fish. I do fairly well casting bucktails up and down the river, but never can get fish over 35 in. What works well for you guys?
Happy hunting, Michael

Wow. I'm shocked Rob let a muskie question stay up here!
Hunter,
Put the bucktails away until June or September. Grab some cranks (Super Shad Raps, Shallow Invaders) and toss them perpendicular to shore, but also parallel. Watch for fish porpoising or chasing shad against the shoreline. Often casting parallel will reward you with a fish. In early summer and September through November, grab topwaters and throw them everywhere (Jackpots, Hawg Wobblers, Top Raiders). Plastic baits such as Bulldawgs and Swim Shads work well. Make sure you allow them to sink to the bottom and slow crank them in.
I haven't had much success on bucktails. But all the other baits mentioned have caught fish up to 44.5" for me and have moved bigger fish.
Also, please treat the fish with great care in the summer (if you fish then). Net them, but leave them in the water and unhook them. Take a QUICK picture and immediately release them. Good luck!!!

Haha! But if I had stricken it from the page we would not have gotten that insightful look into the maniacal world of musky fishing! Hawg gobblers...shallow raiders...my mind is all cluttered up with gibberish talk about some crazy lures that are as big as Steve's head thrown on rods that are stiffer than a flagpole and heavier than its weight in gold! Despite the fact that this board's title is "Fighting Illini Bass Club" I will continue to allow an occational post that breaches the realm of the "off-the-beaten-path." Maybe you should just start a club called the bass eaters, you could be president, Steve could be social chair to get all the club involved in events outside of periodic bass sacrifices, and Rusty could be Chief Intelligence Officer and vouch for the decimation of fisheries such as Lake Shelbyville...
Anyway, I will see all of you bass and musky anglers both at the meeting tonight!

If you wanna catch a big musky, the best way to do it is tail hook about 2lb bass below a big bobber or balloon!
You can't beat live bait!
