Weber and I got out to Lake of the Woods around 4:00 today for some Fall, evening bass action. I was out for revenge after breaking off my only bite on a jig the day before with Steve. Armed with my newly purchased Revolutions rod from Rusty and a trusty 3/8 oz. black/blue jig, I hit the water feeling ready to give the bass a whacking. It was slow for the first half hour or so as the wind pretty much pushed us around. I stuck my first fish off of a rock bank even though I forgot to tighten my drag after respooling this morning...it would have gone about 13" or so. We worked our way into a backwater area and I pitched my jig into a shallow tree and I felt a solid thump. My new rod performed flawlessly as I thwacked a 14-15" bass after a few hops of that beautiful little jig. Not two casts later while hopping my jig by a stump that Weber happened to be snagged on my jig was crushed again, this time by a 16+ fish that was VERY fat and close to 2.5 lbs. After continuing through the backwater area that was full of brush I managed to catch another solid 15-16 inch fish that smacked the jig as I hopped it by a log. We proceeded to our next area and worked a stretch of bank that is usually productive, but to no avail. I decided we would go all the way to the back of the bay where the water was no deeper that 1-1.5 feet telling Weber that I would cry with joy if I caught a fish up in that shallow water with the weather being what it is. Well, sure enough a nice fish was holding in there, but this time it was Weber coming through with a 16+ inch fish that loaded up on his spinnerbait as I was picking out a backlash!
So another good day at Lake of the Woods...hopefully tomorrow will be another nice day for the FIBC...look for the report after I hit the lake with some newbies...
